How Wright and Sullivan Pushed the Boundaries of Brick – A discussion with William Quam, author of Fire and Clay

Join "Chicago's premiere brick expert" Will Quam, author of Fire and Clay: How Bricks Reveal The Hidden History of Chicago, for a presentation and discussion on the history of brick in the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, and their contemporaries. Rightfully celebrated as architectural innovators, Sullivan and Wright were also daring and boundary pushing in their use of brick, helping to break the simple brick rectangle out of the box. Quam will also discuss how their work set the stage for the modern architecture that followed, and where we can still see it in the brick design of today.

WHERE: Nineteenth Century Club, 178 Forest Avenue, Oak Park, IL

Reception at 6:30 PM, 7:00 PM talk
